Emma Smith has a social practice that is both research and production based and responds to site-specific issues. Using an inter-disciplinary approach, including organised events, performance, participation, sound and drawing, she explores the art of everyday life, investigating human engagement with place and in particular the psychological impact of a site’s history on contemporary human understanding and behavior. As part of her practice she regularly collaborates with other artists and works in multi- disciplinary teams.
Smith is interested in the role of artist as catalyst and facilitator, working with non-art audiences and creating events, occurrences and instigations that are of the moment and for the people who experience them at the time.
