Journey

This project traced a physical journey around the county of Essex creating a human map of the county and connecting 9 of its major museums. Traveling in a circular route, Smith attempted to meet as many people as possible, exploring the interconnectivity of both herself to the county and the residents of Essex to each other. Instigating conversations with passers by Smith recorded conversations and coincidences that were then used to inform the production of 9 display panels that formed a simultaneous exhibition at the following venues: Echoing a museum display board aesthetic and vernacular these panels interjected Smith’s own history into that of the museum as well as mapping her broader connection to the county.
